NPL: Kano Pillars striker Gambo returns after gunshot injury

Kano Pillars star Gambo Mohammed will on Sunday be available for selection against visiting Nasarawa United five months after he was shot by armed robbers who attacked the Nigeria champions' team bus on their way to a league game in March.

Gambo had to undergo an operation to remove bullets around his collar bone from the shots he suffered.

"Gambo is the 18-man squad for the match against Nasarawa United. He has fully recovered from his gunshot wounds and has pulled his weight in training to now be considered for selection," Pillars spokesman Idris Malikawa informed reporters

"We give God the glory and thank the fans and all those who supported us in a very trying time for the club and now Gambo is back to the team.

"The player himself has told me he is ready to lead the Pillars attack once again."

Also on the squad are skipper Rabiu Ali and Moses Ekpai, who has served out a one-match ban for accumulated bookings.

New signing Bala Zakka, who was stopped from playing against Enyimba by his former club, and Flying Eagles defender Zaharadeen Bello, who made his debut as a late sub at Enyimba, are also in line for action on Sunday (Aug 23) at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
