Tiote has been inactive for some time, but Newcastle United's powerhouse Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote is set for some game time this week. The hard-tackling defensive midfielder is set to play against York City and Borussia Monchengladbach as part of Newcastle's preparations for the new season. Tiote has just returned from a serious knee injury sustained playing for his country at the African Cup of Nations. He has managed 45 minutes of Newcastle's pre-season campaign, during the 1-0 win at Gateshead three weeks ago. Tiote's manager Steve McClaren said: "Cheicky is back in training. He had a little niggle on his knee but hopefully he's back now." |
