Aston Villa set to finalise Adebayor deal today

Aston Villa are set to finalise their signing of Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor today.

The 31-year-old has agreed to leave Tottenham Hotspur and link up with former coach Tim Sherwood at Villa Park.

Adebayor completed a medical with the Birmingham side yesterday and is poised to be unveiled as their latest signing.

He joins fellow West African Jordan Ayew at the club, but the pair may face stiff competition from Dimitar Berbatov, with the former Manchester United striker now strongly linked to Villa.

Berbatov, 34, is a free agent after leaving Monaco at the end of last season and is currently on holiday back in Bulgaria.

Adebayor could make his Villa debut in a friendly at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Sherwood is hoping to once again inspire Adebayor, who bagged 14 goals for him after he brought the striker in from the cold in 2013/2014 after replacing Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham
