AC Leopards striker Rudy Bhebey Ndey may never play football again after suffering a severe spinal injury against Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday (26, July)
The "Fauves du Niari" skipper fell awkwardly following a collision with Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed Shenawy, requiring immediate medical assistance.
Ndey has been recovering steadily at the Air Force Specialized Hospital (AFSH) in Cairo having undergone surgery on Monday (27 July)
Doctors were unable to disclose whether he will be able to play again at the time, but latest reports suggest that the 29-year old is likely to never take the field as a professional footballer again.
The Egyptian surgeon overseeing the Congolese footballers medical care said:
"I cannot say when he is going to be able to walk again, but as far as football is concerned, it is going to be very difficult to see him ever again on the field."
