BPL: Pellegrini sign new two years contract with City


Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has signed a contract extension which runs until 2017.

The Chilean's original deal had been due to expire next year, but he will now remain in charge of the 2013-14 Premier League champions for the next two seasons.

Former Malaga and Real Madrid boss Pellegrini became City manager in june 2013, replacing Roberto Mancini.

"I am proud to manage Manchester City," the 61-year-old said.,

"I have a very good quality group of players and a great team of people to work with on and off the field and at all levels of the club."

City have also given new terms to three of Pellegrini's backroom staff - assistant manager Ruben Cousillas, goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor and fitness coach Jose Cabello.

Pellegrini's future had looked uncertain, with some reports suggesting Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola was set to take over next season.

However, with his future now resolved, Pellegrini is now determined to guide City to the Premier League title after losing out to Chelsea last term.

"I am focused on the coming season and confident that my team and I will respond to the constant support shown to us by everyone," he added.

City begin the new season away to West Brom on Monday.
