Mbabane Swallows edged local rivals Royal Leopards 5-3 on penalties to win the inaugural King's Super Cup at Somhlolo Stadium on Saturday. (18, July 2015)
The two Swaziland clubs made it to the final after dispatching invited SA clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the semifinals.
Swallows progressed to the final with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Chiefs following a goalless draw after 90 minutes.
Pirates suffered the same fate, going down 3-1 in the shootouts after a 1-1 draw. Luvuyo Memela opened the scoring in the first half before Muzi Dlamini equalised for Leopards with 15 minutes remaining.
The final followed a similar pattern as the two semifinals as the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Steve Komphela said the game, their first of the pre-season, gave him an indication of what to look out for as he prepares for the upcoming season.
"My impression of the match is that, firstly we are disappointed to lose the match but we've collected good information for our preparations,"
"We played well and naturally one expects the team to drop at the hour mark. But, we were creative and fluid on the ball," Komphela said
