Mourinho backs Drogba's MLS move

After being heavily linked with a move to the Major Soccer League in America, Didier Drogba has received backing form coach Jose Mourinho.

It was reported on Wednesday (22, July) that the Cote D'Ivoire legend was having talks with Chicago Fire as the club's COO Atul Kholsa confirmed the talks.

Now the Blues mentor has backed Drogba to join an MLS side.

"If I owned a club I would immediately think about a player like him - a man like him - to be the centre of the club's universe. He is very strong in the dressing room," said Mourinho.

"He is very strong in his image. He is a great example of a club man and the fact that he didn't accept an offer to stay with us.

"At the end of last season we let him choose what he wanted to do with us. For him not to accept that, and decide to delay coaching for two years' time, because obviously he will be back with us in two years' time; to not accept that and say clearly that he still wants to enjoy his football, two more years is the best answer. He feels in great conditions for two more years."

Although there has been nothing materialising from the talks with Chicago Fire yet, Drogba's future remains uncertain and could lead him to the US.

According to ESPN, Chicago Fire have been trying to fend off interest from an unidentified Qatari club, and on Monday the Montreal Impact was reported to have said they are also negotiating to bring the 37-year-old to MLS.

On the other hand, media reports suggest that MLS team have priority to sign the 37-year-old, however, Drogba would prefer Montreal, where he can speak his native French.
